Grants for air conditioning in 2026: MaPrimeRénov', CEE, VAT
By the Aircadia team
In 2026, the main grant for a reversible air conditioner is the CEE bonus (energy-saving certificates), which can reach several hundred euros depending on your income, plus reduced VAT on the installation. MaPrimeRénov’ is still possible but only within a large-scale renovation. All these grants require an installation carried out by an RGE-qualified professional.
Is reversible air conditioning eligible for grants?
Yes, but only reversible air conditioning (an air-to-air heat pump) qualifies, because it also provides heating. A “cooling-only” unit is not subsidised: it doesn’t improve the home’s energy performance in the sense of the grant schemes.
The 3 main grants in 2026
1. The CEE bonus
Funded by energy suppliers, the CEE bonus for an air-to-air heat pump can reach around €1,200 for the most modest households, and roughly €700–800 for other homes. The amount depends on your income, the unit’s performance and the climate zone.
2. Reduced VAT
For a home completed more than two years ago, installing a reversible air conditioner benefits from 10% VAT (instead of 20%) on labour and the equipment supplied by the installer. It’s an automatic reduction, applied directly on the invoice.
3. MaPrimeRénov’
In 2026, MaPrimeRénov’ only funds the reversible air-to-air heat pump within a supported pathway (large-scale renovation): the project must include at least two insulation measures and target a gain of at least two DPE classes. For a standalone AC installation, this grant therefore does not apply.
The Aircadia tip: beware of ads promising “AC for €1” or guaranteed grant amounts. Eligibility always depends on your situation, the type of project and the installer’s certification.
The essential condition: the RGE label
To qualify for the CEE bonus or MaPrimeRénov’, the work must be carried out by an RGE (Reconnu Garant de l’Environnement) company. Always check this before signing a quote, and ask that the mention appears clearly on the document.
How much is left to pay?
On a typical reversible installation of €3,000–5,000, combining the CEE bonus and reduced VAT can lighten the bill by several hundred euros. The best way to see clearly is a detailed quote showing the price excluding VAT, the VAT applied and the grants deducted, item by item.
FAQ
Can I get grants for a cooling-only air conditioner?
No. Only reversible units (air-to-air heat pumps), which also heat, qualify for the main grants.
Do I have to use an RGE installer?
Yes, for the CEE bonus and MaPrimeRénov’, the work must be done by an RGE-certified company.
Are grant amounts guaranteed?
No. They depend on your income, the project and the equipment. Be wary of any promise of a fixed amount before assessment.
